6 Best Colorado Elopement Locations

1.) Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most epic places to elope. Whether it’s the lush summer greens, the golden aspens in fall, or the snow-capped peaks in winter, this place has it all.

If you’re the type of couple who thrives in nature and wants a little adventure, RMNP is the spot. The park offers endless ways to explore, and no matter the season, you’ll get incredible views and plenty of space to enjoy each other’s company.

Keep in mind, a wedding permit is required here, and you’ll want to apply up to a year in advance to lock down your date (Check here on how to get your wedding permit). Depending on where you choose to elope, group sizes are capped at 15-30 people, and dogs can’t join in the ceremony areas.

For something a little more low-key but still surrounded by jaw-dropping views, Estes Park is a great option. It offers the same stunning mountain vibes without the trek into the backcountry. Whether you elope in Estes or inside the park, you’ll be immersed in nature and unforgettable scenery.

2.) Top of Crested Butte Mountain

If you’ve ever been to Crested Butte, you get it, it’s one of those places that just sticks with you. Between the wildflower-filled meadows, alpine lakes, and epic mountain views, it’s a dream spot for couples who crave nature and adventure. In the summer, the wildflowers are in full bloom (Crested Butte is actually the wildflower capital of Colorado!), making it a breathtaking backdrop for your elopement. Just a heads-up, as tempting as it is, picking them is a no-go, it’s actually against the law, so make sure to enjoy them from afar! Fall brings golden aspens and cozy vibes, while winter and spring are quieter, but less predictable with the weather (my favorite time!).

If you do choose to elope in the wildflower capital of Colorado, you’ll need a special permit to hold your elopement ceremony and to take photos on public land. The permits are easy to get, but since Crested Butte is a popular Colorado elopement spot, you’ll want to reserve your permit well in advance. Make sure to check Gunnison National Forest, Crested Butte Land Trust, or local authorities depending on where exactly you’re planning to elope

3.) Top of Vail Mountain moment and Pinery Ridge

Vail is one of those hidden gems in the mountains that just feels like a dream come true. Surrounded by the Rockies, it’s got everything from peaceful forests to flowing streams and those wide-open views that leave you speechless. If you’re a couple who wants to ditch the traditional and go for something a bit wilder and more meaningful, Vail is the spot to say your vows.

When it comes to timing, it all depends on the kind of vibe you’re going for. In the summer, the landscape is lush with mountain views that are straight-up jaw-dropping, but it’s also the busiest time of year. Fall? Well, the aspens turn golden, creating that gorgeous autumn vibe, and the crowds are much thinner. Colorado’s weather can be unpredictable, so if you’re thinking of a Spring or Winter elopement, be ready to plan around the elements!

Pinery Ridge Ranch is a hidden gem just 12 miles outside of Vail, great for couples looking for a private, off-the-beaten-path elopement spot. This 40-acre Rocky Mountain retreat sits right on Piney Lake at the base of the Gore Range, offering wide-open views, total seclusion, and a seriously breathtaking backdrop for your day.

3.) Buena Vista Downtown and Top of Buena Vista Mountain

Buena Vista is one of those places that just feels right, tucked in the heart of the Rockies and surrounded by the Collegiate Peaks. IIt strikes a beautiful balance between mountain views and small-town charm. Whether you’re saying your vows by the Arkansas River or chasing golden hour in the mountains, Buena Vista gives you space to slow down and make it your own.

If you’re looking for a unique winter elopement, Buena Vista turns into a winter wonderland when the snow falls. Summer is the most popular time because of the warm weather, but prepare for a chance of afternoon showers. The temperatures cool off during the fall, while the aspens are vibrant with colors.

Getting married in Buena Vista is super simple and affordable. All you need is a marriage license from Chaffee County, which costs just $30 to get started.

As one of the most accessible Colorado elopement locations, this location is unique for couples who want something meaningful without having to trek deep into the wilderness. The best part? You don’t need a permit for small groups, so it’s super accessible but you’ll still want to get your marriage license which you can do here! Plus, both guests and dogs are welcome, yes, your pup can be part of the adventure! With easy-to-navigate trails, everyone can join in on the experience, no matter their comfort level. Whether you’re just soaking in the views or taking a quiet moment with each other, Garden of the Gods gives you that organic blend of natural beauty and simplicity.

4.) Maroon Bells (Aspen)

If you’re dreaming of an elopement with a jaw-dropping mountain backdrop, a Maroon Bells elopement might be exactly what you’ve been picturing. Located just outside Aspen, this place is stunning year-round, but I have to say, it truly shines in the fall when the aspen trees turn that golden hue, and in the summer when the wildflowers blanket the valley. Whether you’re planning a Maroon Bells Colorado elopement or a more laid-back Aspen elopement, this area is sure to give you some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ll ever experience, it’s one of my personal favorites and a true standout among Colorado elopement locations!

The Maroon Bells are absolute giants, towering over 14,000 feet high, with their deep maroon-colored rock standing in sharp contrast to the lush green forests below. At the base, there’s an alpine lake so still and clear, it reflects the mountains like a mirror. It feels like something out of a storybook, and that’s what makes it so special.

Since it’s such a popular spot, permits are required, and availability is limited, so you’ll definitely want to plan ahead if this location speaks to you, you can check ceremony reservations on their website. Small groups are welcome, but just a heads-up, pets aren’t allowed at this location, so you’ll have to leave your furry friends behind for the ceremony.

5.) Bridal Veil Falls (Telluride)

Now, if you’re looking for a location that’s dramatic, unforgettable, and absolutely stunning, then Bridal Veil Falls should be high on your list. This 365-foot waterfall in the heart of Telluride is the tallest free-falling waterfall in Colorado, and honestly, it’s the kind of backdrop that demands attention. It’s tucked into a stunning box canyon, and the way the water crashes down against the rocks is just… incredible. The falls are at their most powerful from late spring through early fall when the snow melts, but let me tell you, fall is such a hidden gem here. The waterfall slows a little, but the aspens turn bright gold, and there’s something about the air in Telluride that makes everything feel like a cozy, mountain fairytale. A fall elopement here will give you the vibrant seasonal beauty that Colorado does so well.

This location is dreamy for smaller gatherings because it’s not really set up for large crowds, but dogs are allowed on the trails, which is a plus for pet lovers! If you’re planning something bigger or need more space, you’ll need a permit, so make sure to get that squared away ahead of time. It’s totally worth it for such a magical spot.

Bonus location: Garden of the Gods

If you’re looking for a spot that’s easy to get to but still feels incredibly special, a Garden of the Gods elopement is one of my absolute favorites. It’s breathtaking all year long, with rust-red rock formations that are nothing short of iconic. The place has this vibe, alive and ever-changing, with the seasons and light shifting the landscape in the most magical ways. Landmarks like “Kissing Camels” and “Balanced Rock” aren’t just cool formations; they’re a piece of the park’s history that bring so much personality to the place. Honestly, every time I visit, I’m still in awe of how special it feels.

As one of the most accessible Colorado elopement locations, this location is ideal for couples who want something meaningful without having to trek deep into the wilderness. Whether you’re just soaking in the views or taking a quiet moment with each other, Garden of the Gods gives you that authentic blend of natural beauty and simplicity.

Choosing Your Dreamy Colorado Elopement Spot

Colorado is full of stunning places to say your vows. You could choose an epic mountaintop, a peaceful forest trail, or even a hidden waterfall. And here’s the best part: Colorado allows you to self-solemnize, which means you don’t need an officiant. You can legally marry yourself—just you and your person, creating a truly personal moment.

Now, while some places might not require a permit or venue fee, that doesn’t mean they’re free. The land deserves our respect, so make sure to always follow Leave No Trace, stay on trails, and pack out everything you bring in.

At the end of the day, your Colorado elopement isn’t just about snapping a beautiful photo. It’s about finding a place that truly reflects your love—a location that feels like it’s just yours. Your elopement photographer should be there to help you craft a timeline and choose the best location that aligns with who you are as a couple (Aka me!). When it all comes together, your day isn’t just beautiful, it’s deeply meaningful.
