If you’re more of a brunch and coffee kind of couple, Station 24 Café or Brown Dog Coffee Company are local favorites. After your photos, you can cap the day with a local brew downtown. Take it a step further by soaking in the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, raft along the Arkansas River, or make the quick trip to explore the ghost town of St. Elmo. It’s those simple, down-to-earth moments, coffee dates, or a little mountaintown adventure, that make your story feel real and rooted in the place.

Permits & Accessibility: Most of the time, you won’t need a formal permit for an engagement session on public land in Buena Vista, unless it’s managed by the Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management (BLM). I usually recommend morning engagement sessions for softer light, fewer crowds, and a better chance of avoiding those summer thunderstorms. Every season here has its own feel, wildflowers and open passes in summer, golden aspens in fall, snowy peaks in winter, and muddy-but-beautiful lower elevations in spring.
